The big advice thrown around at the moment surrounding mental health is to 'open up.' Talking to your friends is one thing, discussing traumatic experiences and potentially big topics such as depression, personal dealings with mental health and reflections on your own behavior is another.
Though some people might see as insensitive to play a game about mental health, I found it to be the perfect prompt to open up without the pressure of starting a conversation. The game is made so that opening up about your experiences rewards points, meaning that winning is achieved by discussing personal matters, often starting wider conversations on the topics raised during the game.
It must also be said that the prospect of opening up is often daunting. The game isn't daunting, especially when played with other people. Everybody learns something new about each other, and about themselves, and no one is left to feel as if they'd brought the mood of the room down.
De-code Re-code is a great creative approach to the modern issue of mental health, by making it easy to talk to your friends, for your friends to talk to you.
